One of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Dan Marino played for the Miami Dolphins for 17 seasons, shattering numerous league records as one of the game’s elite passers. When he retired in 1999, he held every meaningful career passing record as a quarterback. A nine-time pro bowler, Marino was inducted into the pro football Hall of Fame in 2005. Following his career, he has served as a TV studio analyst for CBS and HBO and as a special advisor to the Dolphins. In this motivational conversation, he’ll discuss:
  • his early life growing up in a Pittsburgh working-class family
  • how he developed a work ethic that helped him excel in football
  • obstacles and controversies that strengthened his drive
  • his perspective on leadership, team building and setting goals.

A first-round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 1983, Dan Marino became the only rookie quarterback ever to start in the Pro Bowl (1983), was named the NFL’s MVP in his second season (1984), was a nine-time Pro Bowler, and led the Dolphins to the Super Bowl in 1985. He won the Dolphins’ MVP Award 12 times, and the team has since named the award after him. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005, and in 2010 he was ranked number 25 on the NFL’s Top 100 Greatest Players list.

Marino was a studio analyst for the CBS NFL pre-game show, THE NFL TODAY, for 12 years. Along with CBS, he has developed equity partnerships in numerous business ventures, including Nutrisystem, 3Cinteractive and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. He is also an executive advisor to the Miami Dolphins’ owner and CEO.

Inspired by experiences in raising his autistic son, Michael, Marino and his wife Claire founded The Dan Marino Foundation in 1992; it has raised more than $45 million to provide services and fund groundbreaking initiatives for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.
